Maidstone Wargames Club outing 2015
The game set up
Hammering Maidstone I visited the Maidstone Wargames club to play Hammer's Slammers: The Crucible with seven club members including Tony Francis of Brigade Models. We used two forces: Sulwesi Regular Army with TAS support versus a Stewart Army with Slammers and West Riding Yeomanry as paid mercenaries. Obvousy I knew what I was doing rule wise (ahem!) as did Tony and we took the WRY and Sulwesi armour respectively, but of the five other players - Chris Sime (Stewarts) and Dave Sime (Slammers); Jon Roche and Jeremey Claridge (TAS) and Tony Gibbs (Sulewesi scouts) and Mike Proudlock (Sulewesi support) only Dave had played once before: the rest had never used the rule system. This was to be yet another an interesting test of the rule system and how well it can be explained to gamers with lots of experience, though little of the Crucible itself. The Game We played a game on a 12 by 6 table and ran the two forces: The first was comprised of three detachments of the Sulwesi Regular Army with support from two detachments of the formidable Terran Authority Star Marines Advanced Heavies. Those five detachments had a player each. The only leader this force had with Elite skills was Brigadier Vijanta (which seemed appropriate as Tony was running the Sulwesi!). Other than the Brig (with skills Blitzkrieg and Shaper of Men) they had a Captain and a Lieutenant. The Terrans fielded a Captain and another Lieutenant.
