Moving forward with the Centurion The Centurion is a generally lightly-armoured, very large transport intended for rear-echelon use, rather than a frontline personnel carrier. Variants include command, air- defence, artillery and engineering. The use of standard turret fitments allows it to be quickly reconfigured in a well-equipped field workshop, and the segmented design means that an entire damaged section can be removed and replaced, although this is not something that can be undertaken in the field. Troop carrying versions are spacious and comfortable, with plenty of space for weapons and equipment. It is also heavily mine-resistant with an internal 'V' shaped hull, explosive armour in the lower section and is fitted with the highest level of protective seating. Troops often spend lengthy periods of time on board during transits between deployments, so the extra space is appreciated by men and women on their way to a combat zone. . .
